The server will be plugged into my USB DAC. I want to play around with a fanless build with a SSD hooked up to an external HDD (hopefully soon to be NAS). I have built computers in the past but this will be my first time in the Mini-ITX form factor. XeSS vs.After a recent stout of bad luck with acquired Mac Mini's I have decided I am going to build my own server, probably running Windows (have not yet looked into 8 so I don't know about that) with J River.

  • Posted on Apr 20th 2011, 15:39 Reply #3 fullinfusion I had recalled that my old Jetflash V30 wrote at less than 2.6Mb/s - but I dug it out the bottom of a desk draw, dusted it off, and re-tested it and it, and it actually benched at 5Mb/s - so yeah - Although I had previously said the Verbatim was second worst it actually is the WORST, Slowest writing Flash Drive I have EVER used. SHOCKING because my very first flash drive ever, a 256mb Transcend "Jetflash" (TS256MJF2B) Yes - before they even had "Version" numbers - back in 2003 - Writes data at ~ 6.6+Mb/s and I STILL have it, and it Still works :)

My Mother recently got a Li'll 4Gig Verbatim and it writes at LESS than 3.5Mb/s - it's SHOCKING - that's more than 20 minutes under IDEAL conditions to copy 4Gigs?!?! You can burn a DVD in 8 minutes! And if you are copying multiple small files - like backing up a "My Documents" folder ? Easily over 2 HOURS. I hope its better than their other rubbish - In my limited personal experience verbatim have some of the WORST write speeds I have ever seen on a flash drive - In fact the worst I have ever personally used - EVER.
